My husband took me to Angel Fire New Mexico to go downhill mountain biking. A few years ago we went to Winter Park, CO, and I did great. For some reason I let unnecessary stress set in. For the first 3 days I had so much anxiety I refused to go. When I did finally go, it was great. We rode the chair lift up the mountain (which was BIG for me since I am scared of heights). Since my husband had gone several times on the trail he was able to reassure me that it was an easy ride. Once I went it was great. As a matter of fact I went twice. I parallel this to mature transitions. When someone thinks of all the things that need to be done, they get anxiety, and imagine the process will be overwhelming. Once the process is explained, and you have someone who will guide you through the process and let you know what to expect, it is not so overwhelming. Don't let yourself get analysis paralysis. Talk to your Senior Move Manager (NASMM), and Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP) to help you through the process.
